Antique French Lingerie Chest

I was out the other evening with my husband (I am honestly never out!) when I received this text from my friend in the neighborhood, Michelle.

I love my neighborhood watchers!

It was trash night in the ‘hood and my friend spotted this very old chest on the curb. As soon as I read her text, I immediately texted my girls to hop in the car and pick it up asap. They weren’t thrilled with the task but they drove over. When they got out and started loading the piece, the owner came out to chat. He told them the back story. The chest is from Paris and was built sometime in the nineteenth century. His grandfather managed to bring it over from France and then it was given to his aunt and then to him. He very nicely gave my girls a few missing keyhole pieces and the key.

A fabulous story! Unfortunately, the piece is in really, really poor condition and I don’t see a Cinderella ending to this one. I was hoping to restore it but the bottom side piece is missing. I actually went back to the house to ask if they somehow had it but they said that it was missing when they got it. It is a curved piece and quite impossible to replicate.

As we unloaded it, the back fell apart.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do with this lovely piece? I cannot throw it out. I love it too much!

My husband is just thrilled with the latest addition to our garage lol!
