Olive Grove to Everglades: Empire Chest Remake

I found this gorgeous Empire style chest of drawers at a thrift store 5 years ago. It was so large that I had to pay my local shipper to pick it up and deliver it to my house. It didn’t fit into my car and this was before we had our truck. If you are interested in seeing another really huge and heavy piece of furniture that I scored from a thrift store, you should check out The Story of the Hungarian Chest for a laugh!

Back to the Empire beauty! I originally painted it in the Magnolia Home chalk paint brand in the color Olive Grove (much to the chagrin of many YouTube viewers!). The glass pulls are original to the piece, but one of the pulls was cracked in two and for the first makeover I had to use different, new glass pulls. The video on that makeover is below.

Fast forward to this past December, and I decided it was time for a change. The new color is by Dixie Belle and is called Everglades. This is an odd green because in some lights it looks super bright and in others, it is more toned down. It is a fun green with a punch of vivid color. I think it looks best on large pieces like this to really make a bold design statement.

To add to the makeover, a few months ago I was able to find a few vintage glass pulls that tied in nicely with the original. The “new” two are on the bottom drawer and fit right in. I absolutely love them! This color may not be for everyone, but I am enjoying the new look!
